Caulfield Guineas (G1) winner GOD’S OWN, is by Redoute’s Choice, Australia’s leading son of Danehill, and now an emerging sire of sires, from the family of Saintly, Taj Rossi, Storm Queen and Dark Eclipse.
Being by Redoute’s Choice and out of a mare by Sky Chase, a son of Star Way, God’s Own has a pedigree that suggests that he should cross well with mares from the Sir Tristram line, including through Zabeel, Kaapstad, Sovereign Red, Military Plume, Marauding and Dr. Grace – all broodmare sires of Redoute’s Choice stakes winners – as well as Grosvernor , El Qahira, Islero, and Zabeel’s son, and grandson, Octagonal and Lonhro.
Redoute’s Choice has been less prolific over the other great domestic sire line of Star Kingdom, although he has a grade one winner out of a mare by Luskin Star, a graded winner out of a mare by St. Covet (by Covetous, a son of Luskin Star), and stakes winner out of a mare by True Version (by Bletchingly, who could be brought in through Canny Lad – the broodmare sire of Redoute’s Choice – Best Western and Star Watch, and grandson Hurricane Sky, a three-parts-brother to the dam of Redoute’s Choice).
God’s Own is a Northern Dancer line horse, but that strain will be in the fifth generation of his foals, and he could cross well over certain strains of Northern Dancer. From this line, Redoute’s Choice has five stakes winners out of mares by Last Tycoon (by Try My Best, who is from the family of Redoute’s Choice) and a grade one winner out of a mare by Try My Best’s brother, El Gran Senor. He has two grade one winners out of mares from the Nijinsky II line (from mares by Whiskey Road and Caerleon); a Champion out of a mare by Encosta de Lago: as well as stakes winners out of mares by Bluebird, Alzao, and Citidancer. It could also be worth crossing God’s Own over mares descending from Nijinsky II through Royal Academy; and from Northern Dancer through Sadler’s Wells (available through Galileo, Montjeu, High Chaparral, Barathea, Carnegie, Scenic, Blevic, King of Kings and Singspiel); Nureyev (who can be found in Australia through Spinning World, Ashkalani, Fasliyev and Peintre Celebre); Storm Cat (including through Hennessy – broodmare sire of three Danehill line stakes winners – and his his son, Johannesburg; Catrail, broodmare sire of a Danehill line grade one winner; Giant’s Causeway; Tale of the Cat; High Yield and Van Nistelrooy), and Night Shift.
Redoute’s Choice is sire of the outstanding mare, Miss Finland, out of a mare by Woodman, a son of Mr. Prospector, as well as stakes winners as well as stakes winners out of mares by other Mr. Prospector line horses Thunder Gulch, Kingmambo, Jade Hunter, and Geiger Counter. Other good Mr. Prospector sources include Miswaki (sire of Umatilla), Gone West (sire of Zafonic whose son, Xaar, would give inbreeding to the family of Redoute’s Choice), Seeking the Gold (sire of Secret Savings), Straight Strike, Defensive Play, Unbridled’s Song and Machiavellian (and his son Street Cry).
Redoute’s Choice has two stakes winners, one grade one, out of mares by Snippets, and Golden Slipper (G1) winner Crystal Lily is by a son of Redoute’s Choice out of mare by Snippets (who is also sire of Pins). Additional broodmare sire lines worth considering include Bushing Groom (Redoute’s Choice has a stakes winner out of a mare by Quest For Fame from this line), Sharpen Up, Halo (whose son, Sunday Silence is broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice graded stakes winner, and who can be found through More Than Ready and Don’t Say Halo, who is already the broodmare sire of Redoute’s Choice grade one winner); Crown Jester and Rory’s Jester; Century through Centaine and Rubiton; Zedative; and Vain. |
