One of the most talented sons of Champion Sire Encosta de Lago, DELAGO BROM was a grade one performer at two, and crowned his career with a victory in the Australian Guineas (G1).
Delago Brom is sire of graded stakes winner Danaupair Starlet out of a mare by Danasinga, a son of Danehill. He also has two stakes placed horses from only five starters out of mares by Flying Spur (giving inbreeding to the family of Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur). He should do well over other sons of Danehill, including Redoute’s Choice, Commands, and Danewin, who all look particularly interesting, as well as Rock of Gibraltar (giving inbreeding to Riverman and a three-parts-sister), Danzero, Exceed and Excel, Catbird and Fastnet Rock. Danehill’s sire Danzig might also work well her through Anabaa, Perugino (three-parts-brother to Fairy King, and sire of Testa Rossa) and Green Desert (sire of Cape Cross, Desert Sun, Invincible Spirit, Kheleyf, Lacryma Cristi, Magic Ring, Shinko Forest and Volksraad).
Although he is a Northern Dancer line sire, Encosta de Lago has enjoyed success when crossed back over mares from that sire line. Northern Dancer lines or broodmare sires that have enjoyed success under Encosta de Lago include Last Tycoon (who should be excellent here, and can be brought in through Bigstone, Iglesia, Just Awesome, Marju and O’Reilly) Alzao, Be My Guest (through Prego), and Caerleon (by Nijinsky II, who would be particularly interesting here through Yeats). Delago Brom’s Black Opal Stakes winner, Delago Bolt, is out of a mare by Barathea (by Sadler’s Wells, a brother to Fairy King), and Encosta de Lago has a stakes winner out of mare by Sadler’s Wells son, Scenic (sire of Blevic). Other sources of Sadler’s Wells include Galileo, Montjeu, High Chaparral, Barathea, Carnegie, and King of Kings and Singspiel. It could also be interesting to bring in Fairy King’s three-parts-brother Nureyev who can be found in Australia through Spinning World, Ashkalani, Fasliyev and Peintre Celebre. Encosta de Lago is also sire of a stakes winner out of a mare by Palace Music, who could be a good fit here.
Delago Brom’s grade two winner Brom Brom is out of a mare by Straight Strike, a son of a Mr. Prospector, who also gives inbreeding to Never Bend (very good with Delago Brom’s grandsire, Fairy King). Other Mr. Prospector line stallions with Never Bend in the dam, giving a similar pattern, include Hector Protector, Marquetry, Street Cry, and Namaqualand. Encosta de Lago also has stakes winners out of mares descending from Mr. Prospector through Belloto, Thunder Gulch, Umatilla, and Fappiano, his son Defensive Play, and grandson Unbridled’s Song. Mr. Prospector sons Jade Robbery and Geiger Counter, would both give inbreeding to the Rough Shod II family. Delago Brom is sire of stakes winner Classic Brom out of a mare by Brief Truce, a grandson of Riverman (again giving inbreeding to Riverman/Never Bend, along with Never Bend’s half-brother Bold Reason). Riverman can also be introduced through Loup Sauvage (bringing in Nureyev),and Rivotious.
Delago Brom has a stakes winner with inbreeding to Sir Tristram, and Encosta de Lago has enjoyed tremendous success with mares descending from Sir Tristram, siring stakes winners out of daughters of Zabeel (who brings in, Nureyev, and is sire of Octagonal), Westminster, Sovereign Red, Marauding, El Qahira and Islero. This strain could also be brought in through Grosvenor, Dalmacia, Dr. Grace, Kaapstad, and Military Plume. Introducing mares by Kenny’s Best Pal or his half brother Filante could prove profitable.
Encosta de Lago has a stakes winner out of a mare Don’t Say Halo (who is by Halo, and brings in Never Bend, who is excellent with Fairy King). Delago Brom should also be very good with Halo, through More Than Ready. Halo is a Hail to Reason line stallion, and Encosta de Lago has sired stakes winners from the Roberto, branch of this line out of mares by At Talaq and Silver Hawk. It would also be good to introduce Roberto through Lear Fan (giving linebreeding to Rough Shod II) or Red Ransom.
Encosta de Lago is also sire of stakes winners out of mares by Zeditave (grade one winner Sacred Kingdom), Centaine (and his sire Century), Kendor and Nishapour (both from the Zeddaan line), Zoffany, Salieri and Twig Moss, and Delago Brom has a stakes winner out of a mare by Sandpit. We can also note that Champion Thatch, is a brother to Special (granddam of Fairy King), and he can be brought in through Thatching and his sons Archway, Rustic Amber (sire of Sequalo), Shalford and Tirol.
