ECSTATIC ABOUT DELAGO BROM Among Australia’s stallion ranks, there are few classier individuals than Delago Brom. An equine Adonis, he has the innate ability to stamp them to type : intelligent head, great length of rein, very strong behind. And speaking of ‘behind’, that’s what a lot of his progeny’s opposition have had to stare at of late with Dancia, Goggles, El Hamma and Morbogal all scoring resounding victories during the past couple of weeks. Not surprisingly, bookings have multiplied as a consequence. However, the ‘pin up’ boy for August is unquestionably the versatile expat, Ecstatic Macau (from the Brief Truce mare A Class Act) who is sweeping all before him in Macau. Bred by the Hoffelner family, who also raced Delago Brom and remain major shareholders in the Encosta de Lago stallion, Ecstatic Macau (nee Classic Brom) raced eight times in Australia, recording a second in the Blue Diamond Preview-LR on debut and a fourth in the Super Impose-LR at three.
But, while he left these shores with a handy resume, Ecstatic Macau (above) has gone from strength to strength on the Chinese mainland with five wins, three seconds (including the Macau Derby-G1 and Summer Trophy-G3) and a third. A tough campaigner who has raced at least once a month since last November, Ecstatic Macau started three times in August, kicking off with a Group second over 1200m on 2 August, a win over 1800m in the ‘Alice Springs’ on 22 August, and, on Saturday (29 August), a gutsy victory over 1400m in the rich $M408,400 Racehorse Owners’ Association Cup. Ecstatic Macau has now taken his earnings to over $A430,000 and heads a rapidly growing list of Delago Brom ‘expats’ who are doing their sire proud overseas, including Group Two winner Brom Brom (a winner in Hong Kong), plus Lago Bay (1000m track record holder), Hot Brom and Brom Flyer who have all been successful in Singapore.
