BEL ESPRIT'S SINGAPORE DOUBLE On the eve of Black Caviar’s devastating performance at Moonee Valley, some 6,000kms away in Singapore, Bel Esprit notched up a memorable double at Kranji with Bel’s Ringer and Perfect Sky both registering resounding victories. Bel’s Ringer (below) became Bel Esprit’s fourth winner in Singapore following in the hoofsteps of Perfect Sky (5 wins), Group winner Mooring (4 wins) and Hybrids.
Racing in the S$65,000 Invitation Stakes over 1200m, Bel’s Ringer charged down the outside to score by 1.5 lengths. “It wasn’t a bad win,” expat trainer John Meagher told the Singapore Turf Club’s Craig Brennan. “I lost him a bit in the run but then I picked him up out wide when he was running on strongly. “I thought he would run well as he was in very good condition. He had held his body weight well from his last run.” Meagher said Bel’s Ringer was still immature and that he would continue to improve with racing. “That was only his fourth run,” said Meagher. “He’s a useful little horse and I think he can win again in his right grade.” Bel’s Ringer is out of the Zoffany mare Let It Ring and has now won more than S$40,000 for the Polar Bear Stable. Bred by Kevin and Tanith O’Brien’s Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm at Corinella, Bel’s Ringer is a half brother to six winners including the multiple stakes placed Port Call. Meanwhile, Perfect Sky notched up his fifth win and took his earnings to over S$200,000 when successful over 1200m, chipping in with a well timed run to catch the tearaway leader. Bred by Geoff and Melinda Bright and Carol Duffy, Perfect Sky was sold by Eliza Park for $70,000 at the 2006 Adelaide Magic Millions and is out of the River Rough mare Time is Hope. A half brother to Sydney sprinter Our Jetsetter (6 wins), Perfect Sky is out of a half sister to 2YO Group One winner Umah from the family of Wenona Girl. |
