MAGNUS' FIRST FOAL The first foal of Group One winning sprinter, Magnus, has arrived at Eliza Park and, according to General Manager Operations, David Somers, he’s a “lovely type”. “It’s obviously far too early to tell whether he (Magnus) is going to ‘stamp’ his stock, but this colt – just like his sire – has good bone a nice head … well put together. Real powerhouse from the look of him!” The colt – born in the wee hours of Sunday 9 August – is out of the well bred Hurricane Sky mare, Discretionary and is owned by leading breeder and long time Eliza Park client Kevan Wacey. Although Discretionary didn’t do much on the track she is a half sister to eight winners from nine to race, including Group Two winner and Group One runnerup Doubting and Group winning 2YO Clinton. Discretionary’s dam, Sovereign Ruby is, in turn, a half sister to stakes winner Paris Opera, who also ran second in the Golden Slipper. Somewhat fittingly, Discretionary was bred by Robert Crabtree, who raced Magnus throughout his illustrious career which included victories in the Galaxy-G1 plus seven first four finishes in Group One events.
