BENDIGO BASH FOR SHINZIG

Eliza Park’s association with the Bendigo Jockey Club got off to a memorable start at Bendigo on Sunday (2 August) with the running of the Shinzig @ Eliza Park Country Showcase Handicap.

Forming a strategic alliance with what is clearly one of the premier racing clubs in country Victoria, Eliza Park will sponsor three races at Bendigo this spring, commencing with yesterday’s race and to be followed by races on Golden Mile day (13 September) and the Bendigo Cup program on 28 October.

The Shinzig @ Eliza Park Handicap was taken out by Golden Snake mare, Snakey Princess, trained by Grant Dalziel on behalf of Eliza Park client, Ted Huglin.

Apart from the consistent mare notching up her biggest payday, Ted was awarded a service nomination to Shinzig who stands this season at a fee of $9,900 inc. GST.

The next race in the series will carry a nomination to Statue of Liberty (whose unbeaten 4YO, Hay List, won by 4 lengths at Belmont on Saturday), while the third event – already shaping as a genuine leadup to the VRC Oaks-G1 at Flemington eight days later – is attached to a nomination to reigning Victorian Champion Sire, Bel Esprit.

Joining Eliza Park and the Bendigo Jockey Club to celebrate the sponsorship were some 70 guests who spent the afternoon eating, drinking, socialising and participating in a not quite successful Punters’ Club!

The crowd was also treated to a Stallion Parade featuring Shinzig, Delago Brom and Danbird.

As the photos show, they seem to have had a good time though!
