DE-LAGO'S BAY SMASHES 1000M RECORD Delago Brom is the ‘darling’ of Asian buyers who admire his progeny for their incredible conformation and athleticism. And it’s not just about the fact that they can walk the walk that has them talking the talk. Don Baertschiger’s lightning 3YO, Lago Bay, showed he can not only run – but run very fast – with a scorched turf performance at Singapore’s Kranji racecourse on Wednesday (22 July), breaking the track record for the 1000m, stopping the clock at 59 seconds dead. “The 1000m is his go,” Baertschiger told the Singapore Turf Club’s Craig Brennan. “He’s run 59 seconds tonight so they’ll have to go 58 something to beat him in the future.” Lago Bay took his prizemoney close to the S$150,000 mark for owners Bernard Lee and Paul Crawford with Wednesday night’s success. From the El Moxie mare Shirley’s Luvena, Lago Bay was bred by Real Time Investments and has now won three of his nine starts with a further five minor placings. LAGO BAY wins at Kranji on Wednesday 22 July 2009, breaking 1000m track record. |
