WEEKEND THREE PEAT FOR STATUE OF LIBERTY Statue of Liberty was front and centre in two hemispheres over the weekend with Liberty Run scoring at La Teste-de-Buch on Friday (26 June), Stanstill winning at Chester on Saturday (27 June) and Gran Cavallo getting the money at Warrnambool on Sunday (28 June). Trained by Jamie Edwards and Bruce Elkington, Gran Cavallo was having only his third start – after two previous placings – and fought on well to grab the major prize from Forever Laughing and another Statue of Liberty in Statue of Glory, less than half a length away in third spot. Bred by R Wright, Gran Cavallo is out of the Honor Grades mare Royal Laureate, while the Don Irlam owned and trained Statue of Glory is from the Rory’s Jester mare Rory’s Glory. Bred by Don Byrne’s Eldon Park Stud, Statue of Glory is a half brother to Flemington 2YO stakeswinner Rossa Glory. By the way, if you’re wondering where La Teste-de-Buche is, it’s in the south of France and famous for the Great Dune of Pyla, the largest sand dune in Europe. We’re nothing if not informative here at Eliza Park! |
