DELZAO'S BANDERILLA A THRILLER Throughout his racing career, Delzao made some fairly dramatic statements including the toppling of Makybe Diva in the Feehan Stakes-G2 and a ripping second to Lonhro in the Australian Cup-G1. And now he’s making us sit up and take notice as a sire : particularly following the emphatic victory of outstanding 2YO Banderilla at Morphettville yesterday (17 June). Racing in the 1250m juvenile maiden, Banderilla was handy throughout before scooting clear by five lengths to record a memorable win. Winning a trial on 1 June, Banderilla had no luck on debut at Morphettville on 6 June, running a bold third over the 1100m. She certainly didn’t escape the eye of punters who sent her out a short priced favourite yesterday and Banderilla certainly didn’t disappoint. Trained by Jon O’Connor, Banderilla was passed in at last year’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale – a fortuitous result for breeders – Rob and Maureen McBryde of Summerset Park Stud – who now have an extremely valuable commodity on their books. Banderilla is one five winners from the Bestebreuje mare Summer Gambit and decidedly more precocious than her half brother, Some Are Bent, who has won 12 from 1100m to 4250m, including the VRC Grand National Hurdle. Although Delzao has only had the four runners to date, each of them have brought home a cheque, including Exulting and Purple Zone who were both second on debut. Delzao stands for just $5,500 inc. GST this season and for further information, phone David Somers on 0428 440 330 or Mark Lindsay on 0416 334 338. |
