BEL'S BOY WORKS THE ROOM

Words escape me : do yourself favour and click on this link because Work The Room’s ‘miracle’ at Sandown today (20 May) has to be seen to be believed.

Racing in the Flying Spur Handicap (1300m), Bel Esprit’s boy jumped last and it was a position he appeared to covet for all bar the final furlong and a half.

Danny Brereton’s huge opinion of the 3YO appeared to further off the mark than Work The Room was from the leader and owners would have been entitled to wonder why they’d got themselves so worked up.

But all of a sudden the engine kicked in and Work The Room started passing the cap catchers as if they’d pulled up. Too late though … surely.

Yet he kept on coming and, bit by bit, pegged them back – grabbing the leader right on the wire. Unbelieviable performance from an extremely promising youngster.

Bred by Hayson Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Work The Room is out of the Grand Lodge mare Social Scene, who has also produced dual Sandown Classic-G2 winner Zipping.

Early days to be sure, but she may have produced another one just as good!
