WE'RE ECSTATIC Hot on the hoof of his brilliant second in the Group One Macau Derby (1800m) at Taipa a fortnight previously, Ecstatic Macau was back in the winners’ circle with a resounding victory in the Mac$415,000 The Damascus (1800m) on Saturday (16 May). Bred by Otto Hoffelner – who also raced Ecstatic Macau’s sire Delago Brom – the 4YO formerly known as Classic Brom, has gone from strength to strength since leaving Oz, winning three and running three placings from eight outings. Although he couldn’t strike it for a win down under, Ecstatic Macau was second on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview-LR at Caulfield and, at three, ran a rollicking fourth in the Super Impose Stakes-LR at Flemington. Clearly the highlight of his career in Macau, however – at least prior to Saturday’s victory – was his second to Sunshine Sure Win in the Derby. The country’s ‘hot pot’ after winning the first leg of the Triple Crown – the Macau Guineas – Sunshine Sure Win didn’t have it all his own way in the Derby and had to dig deep to hold out Ecstatic Macau. Out of the Brief Truce mare, A Class Act, Ecstatic Macau hails from the family of Family Walk, Boardwalk Angel, Crawl, Planet Kingdom etc. |
