DELAGO BROM - ALL CLASS At a fee of just $8,250 for the 2009 season, Delago Brom represents enormous value – particularly on the strength of recent winners. Seal Lago (bred by Otto Hoffelner) got the ball rolling last week with a resounding victory at Hobart on Wednesday (13 May) – her fourth from 16 outings. Trained by leading Tassie mentor, John Blacker, Seal Lago hails from the Le Belvedere mare Tower Seal, a half sister to Moonee Valley Group winner Oregon Seal. This is also the family of legendary speedster and influential sire Zephyr Bay. Two days later, at Kyneton, Delago Brom chipped in with a double when Delshar (bred by Invermien Pty Ltd) and Class Prevails (bred by Diana Anceschi) lobbed in races two and six respectively. Having only her second outing, Delshar is trained at Woodside Park by Dale Sutton, who picked up the filly at the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast for $70,000. Delshar is out of the Spectrum mare Port Righ, a half sister to Group Two winner La Zoffany and Flemington stakeswinner Very Powerful. Class Prevails, from the Palace Music mare Pals, won as a 2YO at Sandown by six lengths and despite a bunch of placings in between – including black type at Moonee Valley – this was her first return to the winners’ circle, scoring with a resounding four length rumble over the 1450m journey. A granddaughter of Sydney Cup winner Palace Revolt, Class Prevails was sold to trainer Tommy Hughes at the 2006 Melbourne Premier for $30,000. Ecstatic Macau, also bred by Otto Hoffelner, rounded out a memorable few days by scoring at Taipa on Saturday – consolation for his gallant defeat in the Group One Macau Derby a fortnight earlier (see separate article). |
