| SINGAPORE ROCKET
Dean Fleming has long been regarded as one of the nation's most adept breeders and his Tyreel Stud in NSW is synonomous with success. However, Dean's renown is now stretching into South East Asia via the deeds of the rather astutely named Rocket Man. Courtesy of the SAH Racing, our man in Asia - Lyle Plumb - has sent through the following report on Rocket Man's brilliant victory at Kranji on Friday night (27 March). "Rocket Man extended his unbeaten run to six and confirmed his status as the best horse in Singapore with a sensational win in Friday night's S$200,000 Group Three Kranji Sprint (1200m). Pressured early and headed by a rival runner for a good part of the race wasn't a worry for Rocket Man who demoralised his older rivals in another record breaking performance. And the margin of four and a half lengths could have been plenty more if required. Champion international jockey Robbie Fradd hardly moved a muscle on the three-year-old flier. Rocket Man stopped the clock in a sizzling 1 minute 8.6 seconds - clearly quicker than Takeover Target's previous track record. And don't forget - Takeover Target was fully extended (by Magnus!) that night, Rocket Man tonight was pulling up! The three-year-old, who is being aimed at Singapore's biggest sprint, the KrisFlyer, is being touted as one of the brightest prospects ever unearthed in the region. A $60,000 purchase by Andy Williams' World Wide Bloodstock outfit at the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Rocket Man delighted his trainer Patrick Shaw with his romping victory. "I was never really concerned when Jolie's Shinju took over the lead," Shaw said. "Robbie knows the horse so well and knew how to let him run relaxed on the inside." "The Lion City Cup is next," Shaw said when asked of Rocket Man's next missions. "He has to take it to the next level now and what better race than the (Group One) Lion City Cup." The half million dollar 1200 metre race, run at weight for ages, is set to be decided on April 24. "If he comes through that, then it's off to the KrisFlyer," Shaw summed up. Robbie Fradd was all smiles in the winner's circle after the race. "He's great, isn't he!?" "He was always switched off and very relaxed even when the other horse came up," Fradd noted. "I gave him just one squeeze and he's got this amazing capacity to just give a big kick and the race was over." "I didn't want to punish him anymore and just eased down on him." he added. "He was also a lot more mature under the lights tonight." In the end Rocket Man had four and a half lengths to spare over his stablemate Richest Gift (Vorster). Jolie's Shinju (Sivan) was the best of the rest in third place, a further neck back. Rocket Man is turning into a great money spinner for his owner Alfredo Crabbia. He's now earned over S$440,000 (A$420,000) from just six starts. The Singapore star is one of six winners from six runners from the stakes winning McGinty mare Macrosa. As well as Rocket Man, Macrosa is the dam of the South African Group One winner Our Giant - a member of the Charles Laird stable who's won 11 races and over R2.5 million." |
