WHIZBANG CLANGALANG

‘Sleeper’ stallion, Clangalang, has been making plenty of noise in March with 10 of his last 11 runners bringing home a cheque, highlighted by victories to Shangalang and Clangstars Ace.

Clangalang – who created history with wins in the AJC Derby and Doncaster Handicap – has only had 19 starters to date, but five have won, eight have placed and three more have earned prizemoney for stakes to runners ratio of 84%.

The Rod Symons trained Shangalang had been knocking on the door with three placings from five starts and was every inch the winner at Bendigo on 12 March, capturing his maiden by a massive 5.5 lengths over the 2400m circuit.

This first crop 3YO was obviously bred with a staying career in mind, being a close relation to Auckland Cup-G1 winner Our Unicorn and NZ St Leger-G3 victor Lady Dahar.

Clangstars Ace is bred for a tad more speed, being a close relation to Blue Diamond Preview-G3 winner Card Queen, and the Danny O’Brien trained 3YO was equally ‘emphatic’ at Benalla on 15 March, winning his maiden by six panels.

With Reverberates hovering in the background, it could pay to keep a close eye on Clanaglang over the next couple of months.
