ELIZA PARK DOUBLE IN KRANJI OPENER

Asian rep, Lyle Plumb, was on hand to cheer home an ‘Eliza Park’ double in the new season’s opening meet at Kranji yesterday (1 January).

My Face (by Grass Wonder) got the ball rolling with a course record equaling performance in the Class 3 over 1200m, while Lago Bay (by Delago Brom) was also the master of brevity by taking out the 1000m Class 4 in a slick 59.8 seconds.

Grass Wonder, who stood at Eliza Park for four seasons (2003-06), produced My Face (ex. Psyllium) in his first crop and the former Japanese shuttler is having a wow of a time in South East Asia.

The Silver Hawk (by Roberto) stallion produces winner after winner in Japan and, in November last, notched up a $7.7 million Japan Cup-G1 victory with Screen Hero.

Taking his earnings to $145k by registering his fourth win from only 12 starts, My Face was ridden by last season’s champion jockey Saimee Jumaat and is trained by Stephen Gray. Coming from well off the pace, My Face burst through to take out the event on the new polytrack.

The Don Baertschiger trained, Lago Bay, appears to have a big future in Singapore too with his victory making it two wins and a second from only three outings.

Previously raced in Adelaide where he produced two city placings from only five starts, the Delago Brom gelding shot clear at Kranji when asked for an effort by John Powell and Singapore does appear to be this bloke’s oyster.

Meanwhile, some 6,300kms distant, Delago Brom also chimed in with a second in course record time when Superior Instinct ran second over 1300m at Randwick over New Year’s Day.

Bred by Iskander Racing and Breeding, Superior Instinct has now raced on nine occasions for two city wins and three runner up cheques.
